Communications Officer
The Nova Scotia NDP Caucus seeks a motivated person based in Halifax to fulfill the position of Communications Officer for a 12-month contract.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities and duties of the Communications Officer include the following:
- Write content for a variety of purposes including speeches, press releases, op-eds, etc.
- Works with the Communications Lead on media requests and message driven communications, preparation of communications products and issue management as required.
- Coordinate, write, and publish press releases and media statements on issues and announcements.
- Support communications strategies for the Caucus, including media relations, and public and stakeholder relations.
- Works collaboratively with staff, management, and MLAs to develop and communicate the common goals, message, and priorities of the NSNDP.
- Help organize press events including press conferences and announcements.
- Monitor and identify emerging issues and opportunities for Caucus members to address issues important to Nova Scotians.
- Monitor current events, reports, announcements on key topics for opportunities for communications activities in connection with long-term Caucus goals.
- Provide remote and in person support for the Leader and Caucus for media interviews and press events.
- Maintain relationships with local media and maintain an up-to-date list of media contacts.
- Other duties as required.
Desired Qualifications
The Communications Officer will possess the following qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in media and public relations, including the implementation of traditional and digital communications strategies.
- Bachelor’s degree or certificate in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or other closely related fields
- Ability to meet deadlines and work in a dynamic and busy atmosphere.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal communication, computer and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with the New Democratic Party, its policies and structure.
- Knowledge of government processes and current issues.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Experience in not-for-profit or membership-based organizations or the public sector considered an asset.
- Bilingualism in French and English is an asset.
Compensation:
The NDP Caucus offers a competitive salary with cost-shared health, dental, and pension benefits. Salary $65,000+ annual
