Chender: Investment, not layoffs in child care needed for recovery

HALIFAX - NDP Early Childhood Development and Education spokesperson Claudia Chender made the following statement on the growing problems in the child care sector:

“This weekend, we’ve heard of layoff notices being issued to early childhood educators and the potential of child care centres closing.
Investing in child care must be a core component of Nova Scotia’s economic recovery from COVID-19. Universal access to high-quality early childhood education pays major dividends for society in terms of increased economic activity overall, and especially more opportunities for women to participate fully in the workforce.
Instead of looking about how to move towards greater access to child care, the Liberals are putting at risk the patchwork system that parents are dealing with now.”
