Liberals continue to abandon health care in Cape Breton

New Waterford -- NDP Health Spokesperson Tammy Martin made the following statement in response to news that the Northside General Hospital Emergency Department will be closed from Saturday July 28 until after Labour Day:

“First, the Premier comes to Sydney and announces that New Waterford and the Northside will lose their hospitals. Now, the Liberal government will be closing our emergency rooms for extended periods of time even before the replacement health centres are built.

Last summer New Waterford lost its mobile health team to a temporary closure, but that service has never been reopened. Should the residents of North Sydney expect the same of their emergency room?

Cape Bretoners deserve better.”
