Duchesne focused on health care, environment in Cumberland South byelection

SPRINGHILL-- NDP Cumberland South candidate, Larry Duchesne, is ready to take on the Liberals and Conservatives. Premier McNeil announced today that the Cumberland South byelection will be June 19, 2018.

“I want to make sure our communities’ needs are heard at Province House,” said Duchesne. “Electing an NDP MLA in Cumberland South will ensure our communities have a strong voice in the conversation around improving health care, creating opportunities for young people and protecting our natural resources for generations to come.”

Duchesne has worked as a teacher and journalist. He holds a B.A. from Mount St. Vincent University and a B.Ed. from Dalhousie University, and is an active community volunteer in the Oxford area. His campaign office at 101 Main Street, Springhill will officially open on Saturday, May 19.

“The McNeil Liberals have centralized health care and education in Halifax and have consistently overlooked rural and small-town Nova Scotia,” said NDP Leader Gary Burrill. “Cumberland South deserves an MLA who will stand up for proper health care, improved long-term care, environmental protections, and a future with opportunities for our people. Larry Duchesne will be that MLA.”

The NDP campaign will focus on addressing the health care crisis, improving education, and protecting our natural resources.
