Hants West - NDP candidate in Hants West, Barbara Gallagher, says today’s layoff announcements at Sepracor Canada Limited in Windsor are the result of a missed opportunity and failed leadership from Rodney MacDonald.

“Nova Scotia’s economy and job losses can no longer be neglected. Nova Scotia needs genuine leadership and they need a job creation plan,” says Gallagher. “Darrell Dexter and the NDP have a plan to create more than 2,200 jobs through a manufacturing and processing tax credit that with the right leadership may have averted these, and many of the province’s job losses.”

This month’s Statistics Canada report shows Nova Scotia had 4,100 fewer jobs in April than in March.

“Rodney MacDonald has been quick to try to take credit for job creation,” says Gallagher. “Action on job losses has been needed for some time now but the premier waited and delayed and left Nova Scotia as the last province to address the economic downturn.”

Today, Sepracor Canada Limited announced 15 jobs at their Hants County facility would be eliminated. Professional positions of all levels were impacted by these cuts.
